What changed

Platforms move the rules and almost never tell you. This is a dated log of the changes that affect what you are allowed to publish, kept by people who have to fix the connector when one of them breaks.

Nobody sends you an email when Instagram halves your hashtags. You find out weeks later, from a post that underperformed, if you find out at all.

So this page exists. Not algorithm gossip and not feature announcements. Only the things that change what will and will not publish: limits, formats, required fields and the API rules underneath them. Every entry says what it actually breaks. Every entry has a date, or says plainly that it does not.

Get told when something moves

We update this page when a platform changes a rule. Leave your email and you get the same note, usually the same week. That is the entire list. No newsletter.

Only when something actually changes. Unsubscribe whenever.

2026

  1. TikTok

Photo posts went from 10 images to 35

Found while updating our own connector rather than announced anywhere we could find. If your tool still caps photo posts at ten, that is why.

What it breaks: nothing publishes wrong, you just quietly cannot use slots that now exist.

  2. Instagram

End-to-end encryption removed from Instagram DMs

Not a publishing rule, and included because people keep asking. It changes nothing about what you can post. It does change what you should be willing to say in a DM.

What it breaks: nothing you publish.

  3. Bluesky

Per-image limit raised from 1 MB to 2 MB

Four images per post, now 2 MB each. Worth knowing if you were compressing hard to get under the old ceiling and losing quality for it.

What it breaks: nothing. It is one of the rare changes that only gives you room.

  4. Date not published TikTok

Caption limit reported as raised from 2,200 to 4,000

Widely repeated, nowhere dated, and we cannot confirm which field it refers to. TikTok has two: a photo post carries a title and a description, while a video post has one caption. Our own integration reads the photo description at 4,000 and the video caption at 2,200 as of 28 August 2026.

What it breaks: possibly nothing. Listed because half the internet now states 4,000 flatly for both, and if you write a 3,000 character video caption on that basis it gets cut.

2025

  1. Instagram

Hashtags capped at five per post and per reel

The largest change on this page. Announced, then rolled out gradually across accounts, which is why plenty of people still have not noticed it happen to theirs. It is a hard cap, not a recommendation.

Two details that are usually missed. Splitting tags between the caption and the first comment does not buy you extra slots. And Instagram does not always refuse the post: it will often publish and silently strip the extras, so the five that survive are whichever came first, not whichever mattered.

What it breaks: every saved caption template written under the old limit of thirty. Which is most of them.

Older, still biting

  1. Instagram

    Basic Display API deprecated

All Instagram access now runs through the Graph API, behind app review. This is the reason so many small tools quietly dropped Instagram support and never explained why.

What it breaks: any integration that was not rebuilt. If a tool you pay for stopped posting to Instagram, this is usually the cause.

Standing traps

Not changes. Things that have always been true, that everyone gets wrong anyway, and that cost people posts every week.

How this page is kept

Every entry comes from one of three places: a platform announcement, a documented API change, or our own connectors breaking in production and us finding out why. The third one is where most of the useful entries come from, because it is the category nobody announces.

If an entry has no date it says so rather than guessing, and if we cannot confirm something we say that too. A log you cannot trust is worse than no log.

ContentSling tracks these so your posts keep publishing when a platform moves. That is most of what the product does. There is a link at the bottom.

Or let something else keep track

Every rule on this page is enforced automatically by ContentSling before a post goes out. When a platform changes one, we change it in the product, and your scheduled posts keep working without you reading a changelog.
